Rows of tradesman's homes with lattice windows on Shirakabe Dozo's Namako wall. A row of willow trees are reflected on the river. The rich atmosphere of the town along the Kurashiki River brings about a sense of the hustle and bustle of of times past, with traditional architecture from the Edo and Meiji Periods seen in the houses and storehouses that line the streets. The tradesman's houses have been restored and renovated in individualistic ways, such as superb fusions of "east and west" and "retro and modern", and you can feel the presence of actual living and breathing citizens of the city.
